A Garden of Earthly Delights
This ceramic sculpture draws inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch's fantastical masterpiece, The Garden of Earthly Delights—a world where the strange and beautiful coexist, where nature takes impossible forms, and where imagination runs wild.
The Gac Fruit
The body of this piece is slip cast from a plaster mould made using a Gac fruit, discovered at a local Vietnamese grocery. With its vibrant red-orange hue and intricate, spiky texture, the Gac fruit is a marvel in itself. The shop owner shared that in southern Vietnam, it's traditionally used as a natural red food colouring for desserts—a small detail that connects this work to culinary tradition and cultural memory.
The fruit's otherworldly appearance made it the perfect vessel for a Bosch-inspired creation.
The Making
Each whimsical leg and tiny mushroom is hand-built and carefully attached, transforming the cast form into a creature that feels both ancient and imagined—as if it might have wandered out of Bosch's painted paradise.
